ON TREATMENT

Be educated

  • Learn all you can about lung cancer.
  • The more you know the more active you can be in your own care.
  • Write down your question and don’t hesitate to ask your health care team.

Nutrition

  • Good nutrition is needed for your body to function properly. Lung cancer and its treatments increase the energy and nutritional demands of your body but can also interfere with eating.
  • Take enough calories to maintain your strength.
  • Good choices include eggs, cheese, milk, ice cream, nuts, peanut butter, meat, and fish. Increase calories by frying foods and using mayonnaise, and salad dressings.
  • Get in touch with your doctor or nutritionist for nutritional advice according to your changing needs

Spiritual

  • You can join your faith group and ask for prayers. You may also want to take a class to learn about some spiritual knowledge.
  • Medical staff may therefore ask you to identify spiritual issues that are important to them, not only for end-of-life issues but also during treatment.

AFTER TREATMENT

Follow up care

  • You may need to receive a regular follow up care once your treatment is over. You should free to schedule your time to make an appointment with your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms that worry you or have other health care concerns.

Seeking support

  • After diagnosed with cancer, you may feel fear, sad, angry or disappointed. You can seek support by talking with your friends, family, counselor or other cancer survivors.

Exercise

  • If you can, do some exercises that can help you feel fresh. Ask your doctor about what kind of exercise best for you.

Diet

  • Balance diet may help you overcome your side effects of treatment.
  • Access healthy recipes and you can learn how your nutritional needs will vary before, during and after treatment.

Relaxation techniques

  • Sometimes you need to calm down. Some people agree that some relaxation techniques such as tai chi, xi gong, yoga or other techniques can make them feel healthy.

PREVENTION

  • Don’t smoke. If you smoke, quit.
  • Avoid second hand smoke.
  • Eat a diet full of fruits and vegetables.
  • Using protective equipment when exposed to dangerous substances.
