Living With Cancer

1. Follow-up care

  • It is very important to go to all follow-up appointments. During these visits, the doctor will ask about symptoms, do physical exams, and may order blood tests (such as AFP levels or liver function tests) or imaging tests, such as ultrasound, CT, or MRI scans.
  • Follow-up is needed to check for cancer recurrence or spread, as well as possible side effects of certain treatments

2. Seeking support

  • Support from family members and friends are important to reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, depression, and fear of recurrence (return of cancer after treatment).
  • Join the support group to share the experience, help in dealing with practical problems, such as problems at work or school and know how to cope with side effects of treatment.

3. Physical activities or exercise

  • Exercise is an important part of healthy living. Exercise can help survivors manage fatigue, lose or maintain weight, improve heart health, manage stress, and improve mood and self-esteem.

4. Nutrition and healthy diet

  • Eating well is important for everyone, including cancer survivors. Eating well will help the recovery by allowing body to regain strength and rebuild healthy cells. It will also help the person feel better.
  • Eat a balanced and healthy diet, more fruits and vegetables, and drink a lot of plain water.
