Types of Pain


Cancer pain may be categorized by:

  • Acute pain
    • Acute pain is pain that is suffered in a short time and will recover fully within a certain period when the body systems return to normal. It is a symptom that tells us something is wrong in the body system and we need to find out the cause and then seek treatment as soon as possible. For example: broken bones, burns, wounds, infection and pain after treatment, surgery or certain procedures.
  • Chronic pain
    • Constant pain, protracted, lasting for more than the expected time. This means that the pain is still felt even body system fully recovered. People with chronic pain is defined when pain suffered continuously for more than 6 months, after this period if the pain is still there, then it is difficult to be eliminated in full. Chronic pain can occur if acute pain is not adequately treated.
