Pain is one of the most common symptoms among cancer patients. In 2000, an estimated 90,000 Malaysians suffering from cancer where

• 50% of the population suffer pain,
• 30% -40% suffer pain when the diagnosis is done,
• 40% -70% while receiving treatment and
• 70% -90% more in the final stage and
• third of them suffer from moderate pain and serious level.

While the pain has been identified as one of the causes of anxiety among them, but many of these patients do not receive appropriate pain treatment. In Malaysia, two major factors that contribute to this problem; cultural factors, lack of knowledge among patients and awareness among medical practitioners.
