There are 2 major types of lung cancer:

1. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
2. Small cell lung cancer (SCLC)

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) 

• Most common type, accounting for 75-85% of all lung cancer
• It is divided into: 

1. 1. Squamous cell carcinoma
   2. Adenocarcinoma
   3. Other subtypes- large cell, anaplastic, clear cell

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) 

• Less common type of lung cancer (15%)
• Has a propensity for early and widespread spread to other organs with 80-90% having spread beyond the lungs at the time of diagnosis
