There are 2 major types of lung cancer:
- Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
- Small cell lung cancer (SCLC)
Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
- Most common type, accounting for 75-85% of all lung cancer
- It is divided into:

- Squamous cell carcinoma
- Adenocarcinoma
- Other subtypes- large cell, anaplastic, clear cell
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC)
- Less common type of lung cancer (15%)
- Has a propensity for early and widespread spread to other organs with 80-90% having spread beyond the lungs at the time of diagnosis
