Professor Datin Dr. Sherina Mohd Sidik start her tertiary education at the University of Malaya (UM) and graduated in 1993 in Medicine (MBBS); MMeD (Family Medicine) from National University of Malaysia (UKM), 2000 and PhD from University of Auckland, 2010 in Community Health. She started her career as a medical officer and then as a family physician in the Ministry of Health (MOH), and she joined Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences in 2001. In 2010, she was promoted to the position of Professor.

 

Prof. Datin Dr. Sherina is involved in teaching and learning activities for undergraduate and post-graduate students in the Master and PhD programs. Among the students involved are medicine, pharmacy, nutrition, social science, rehabilitation, education, psychology, nursing, occupational health and the environmental health. The courses involved in her teaching are Health Assessment, Health Principles, Community Medicine, Psychiatry, Health Studies, Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases, and Adult Health. To date, she has supervised and advised over 80 undergraduate and post-graduate (Master and PhD) students.  In order to enhance the knowledge and latest information about its area of expertise, she participated in many conferences and presented his findings internationally and locally. She is very dedicated and actively publishes research and has successfully  published more than 150 articles in periodicals as well as books and book chapters. She is passionate about getting research grants at university, national and international levels. Her efforts in research have received awards and recognition by international and local bodies such as the Reviewer Recognition Award by the Medical Journal of Malaysia (2014) and research awards by the Doctoral Award & PRESS Fund, University of Auckland (2010). Recent awards she received are the 13th National Academic Award - Journal of Journalism (Social Science and Literature) Award (2019), UPM Vice-Chancellor Fellowship Award (2018), UPM Journal Papers Incentive Award (2016), and Industry Network Award and High Impact Community - UPM's "CaRE Counseling Clinic" High Impact Community Project (2016).

Since the beginning of involvement in research, she has begun to play a role as a manuscript reviewer for several local and international journals and universities. To date, almost 100 manuscripts and research proposals have been evaluated and reviewed by her. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Medical Journal of Malaysia, the leading medical journal in Malaysia since 2017.

Prof. Datin Dr. Sherina has administrative experience as Head of Family Medical Unit, UPM Community Health Department (2005-2007), Member of the University Library Committee (2011-2014), Member of the Senate Teachers Selection Committee (2012-2014), Member of the Senate of University Putra Malaysia (2011- 2014), Lifetime Member of the Malaysian Medical Association and over 40 other committees participated actively. In the international arena, she is a member of the World Organization
